Guided Tour of Victoria Falls (Rainforest Walk)

Victoria Falls National Park (rainforest trail), Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Duration2–3 hours

About the Adventure

This is the one thing no visitor should miss — the guided walk along the Zimbabwean rim of Victoria Falls. The trail threads through the spray-fed rainforest to 16 numbered viewpoints, each framing a different part of the mile-wide curtain: Devil's Cataract, Main Falls, the view across to Livingstone Island, and Rainbow Falls. The optional "Chain Walk" descends a set of stairs toward the gorge for a lower vantage. A guide brings the geology, history and ecology to life — how the Falls formed along the basalt fault lines, David Livingstone's 1855 "discovery," and the monkeys, bushbuck and birds that live in the rainforest. You can also walk it independently with a map.

Best time: Year-round; early morning for soft light and rainbows. April–August brings the heaviest spray; August–January gives the clearest views of the rock face
Category: Sightseeing / nature — the essential experience

Good to Know

  • Best light: Early morning, when sunrise tints the spray pink and gold and the crowds are thinnest.
  • Spray vs. views: In high water (Feb–May) the spray is spectacular but can obscure the view; in low water (Aug–Jan) the rock face is exposed and views are crisp.
  • What to wear: Good walking shoes (paths get slippery) and a waterproof cover for your camera/phone. Never cross the cliff-edge barriers.
  • Lunar rainbow: On full-moon nights the park opens for the rare "moonbow" — see the separate Lunar Rainbow Tour.

Good to Pair With

  • The foundation of almost every Victoria Falls itinerary; pair with a Helicopter Flight for the aerial view
  • Combine with a Zambezi Sunset Cruise to round out the day
  • Featured in our Signature Day, Essential 3-Day and Adrenaline Day packages
