Zambian River Wilderness
Discover the magic of Lower Zambezi
"The Zambezi is a river of constant motion, yet there is a deep peace in drifting alongside its reed banks at sunset."
The Lower Zambezi is the Zambian side of one of Africa's most celebrated wilderness river valleys — directly across the water from Zimbabwe's Mana Pools World Heritage Site. What makes it special is the sheer range of ways you experience wildlife here: traditional 4x4 game drives, walking safaris, and — uniquely — canoeing and boat-based safaris that let you drift silently past elephants drinking at the riverbank, pods of hippo, and some of the highest densities of African fish eagle anywhere on the continent.
This is a quieter, more exclusive corner of the safari map than Chobe or Hwange — camps are small, often family-run, and the valley's relative remoteness (no large towns, limited road access) keeps visitor numbers low. It pairs naturally with Victoria Falls/Livingstone as a "falls plus river wilderness" combination, or with Lower Zambezi's Zimbabwean neighbour for a cross-river experience.

Livingstone Day Trip: Falls & Elephant Café
The Falls look different from the Zambian side — closer, wetter, and from a completely different set of viewpoints. This day trip crosses the border to give you that perspective, then adds something most visitors never get to: time spent walking alongside rescued elephants at a dedicated sanctuary, learning about each animal's story from the keepers who know them best.
We handle the border logistics so you don't have to think about them — transfers, crossing assistance, and timing are all built in. The day balances the grandeur of the Falls with something more intimate: a slow walk through the bush with elephants, finishing with the chance to feed them and hear about the conservation work behind the sanctuary. It's a different kind of day, and one that tends to stick with people long after the trip ends.
